Electrochemically Assisted Persulfate Oxidation of Organic Pollutants in Aqueous Solution: Influences, Mechanisms and Feasibility

Electrochemically (EC) assisted persulfate (PS) oxidation processes (EPOPs) have gained increasing attention in recent years. In this review, the current status and prospects of EC/PS degradation organic pollutants are discussed summarized. It was found that most contaminants could be significantly enhanced or accelerated using combination EC PS compared to single treatments. Moreover, effects various operational variables on removal were investigated. Some highly sensitive, optimal conditions case-specific. Regarding mechanisms, radical-induced reactions nonradical both exist for elimination contaminants. Oxidants (including S2O82− SO4•−) can produced from SO42− near anode, which is a unique feature EPOPs. some studies, electrical energy consumption EPOPs has been controlled reasonably low level lab-scale attempts. Although there still few drawbacks difficulties (e.g., potential electrode fouling, dependency batch mode) large-scale applications, offer promising alternative traditional advanced techniques.
